Replacing traditional exterior rain cladding with photo voltaic cells creates a true Building Integrated Photo Voltaic facade known as BIPV.
The SolarLab BIPV solution is customized to fit every facade and is used both in new constructions and as rainscreens in energy renovations. The low maintenance facade panels are made from PVD coated and tempered low-iron glass laminated with high quality PERC c-Si photo voltaic cells, before being assembled with our proprietary mounting system to form the finished facade system.
Photo voltaic cells are temperature sensitive and their power output as well as their lifespan is reduced at higher temperatures, so our facades are designed to allow natural air ventilation to cool the panels while providing a highly durable sun and weather screen to the underlying building structure. An added benefit of the vertical installation, combining both better ventilation and lower radiation on the facade during the mid-day sun is the increased component longevity and better performance of the solar cell technology.
We produce entirely in Europe to provide an extremely flexible and responsive production pipeline with low LCA, as we strive to manufacture using purely sustainable energy sources and minimizing unnecessary transport.
As Passive House and ZEB projects often require onsite energy production our solar facades are often cost-neutral to placing traditional low-cost system on the roof and will free up flat roofs to be utilized for activities and rainwater management.
Panels manufactured using the same technology and materials are known to still be in production 60 years after they where originally installed.
Our solar facades are supplied as complete systems, to be installed by a local installer under our supervision. If required, SolarLab can, however, also facilitate the installation and commissioning through our network of local installers.
The SolarLab cladding systems are designed for low energy footprint, longevity and ease of installation as well as service. A low installation weight of under 15 kg/sqm has been achieved to ensure the systems can be installed anywhere and by a single person if necessary.
SolarLab has a deep and extensive background in solar panel design and manufacturing, from running our own production in Sweden where we manufacture standard panels to our new production pipeline across Europe. We use this unique understanding of the technical possibilities and technological limitations to design, develop and manufacture our bespoke energy producing facades.
To ensure the solar facade options are fully explored, we support owners and architects with a pre-tender advice and design support. This helps to minimize uncertainties and any perceived risk by ensuring the facade is designed for production, installation and code-compliance. To ensure that the architectural design intent is fully realised in the final building, we can assist with early prototypes, as well as the clear solar facade descriptions and specifications for the tender packages.
Early energy studies, integration guidance, concept design and scoping is the first step in the 4 step process towards a fully installed and commissioned solar facade that will last a lifetime.
SolarLab supplies the customised and complete BiPV facades as Client Supplies or to the installer as a Client required component. The installation is locally tendered and we work closely with the chosen local expert facade installers, electricians and commissioning teams to ensure a succesfull realisation.
The installer receives ‘what-comes-in-a-box’ from SolarLab, along with installation training, as well as inspection and commissioning support. This adds flexibility and ensures local code compliance as well as personal post-install service and support on every project.
